We are seeking an experienced Youth Lead to help design and deliver youth leadership and weekend programmes at our youth hub based at the YMCA St Helens.
Role Overview
Lead the development and delivery of youth leadership and weekend club programmes for 11–18-year-olds at YMCA St Helens. This includes overseeing skill-building activities (e.g. cooking, digital media, sports, performing arts, games design), promoting youth voice, and supporting young people to develop a programme for delivery from April 2026 to March 2027. Working days will be Wednesday – Sunday
Key Responsibilities
Programme Leadership
- Design, promote, and deliver the Weekend Club and Take the Lead programes.
- Empower young people to develop leadership skills and contribute to youth-led activities.
- Ensure youth voice is embedded across the Youth Hub and wider organisation.
- Celebrate youth participation and leadership achievements.
Operational Delivery
- Plan and lead weekend youthwork sessions.
- Develop and support a young person’s steering group and leadership training.
- Ensure activities are safe, inclusive, and aligned with project goals.
- Coordinate staffing rotas and manage absence cover.
- Collaborate with the Youth Hub team and external partners.
Safeguarding & Health and Safety
- Oversee safeguarding and H&S during weekend activities.
- Ensure staff are trained and compliant with policies.
Staff Management
- Line manage weekend youthwork staff and facilitators.
- Provide training and support professional development.
Monitoring & Evaluation
- Use agreed tools to capture outcomes and support reporting.
- Assist with data collection and evaluation processes.
General Duties
- Work in line with YMCA St Helens’ ethos and policies.
- Adapt to changing needs and responsibilities as required.
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience, qualifications, and understanding of outcome focused youthwork and leading youthwork teams working with children and young people.
- Available Thursday–Monday, including at least 3 evenings.
- Experience in outcome-focused youthwork and team leadership.
- Strong, practical understanding of safeguarding and H&S in a youthwork setting.
- Experience working with young people with mental health needs, SEND, or challenging behaviours.
- Excellent communication, listening, and relationship-building skills.
- High integrity, initiative, and commitment to youth development.
Desirable
- JNC accredited youthwork qualification.
- Experience engaging diverse communities.
- First Aid qualification.
- Proven ability to monitor and evaluate projects.
- Experience leading staff, volunteers, and budgets.
- Strong admin and IT skills.
- Full driving license (B1 category or willingness to train).
The role is for 35 hours per week working evenings and weekends
Salary £29,450
