Staff across YMCA St Helens and also YMCA Liverpool have been busy taking part in Knitting For Africa. Knitters and crocheters have created a mass of gorgeous handmade beanies, vests and other items for new born babies in Africa.

These items will be donated to Knitting For Africa, a project that is committed to helping babies born with HIV. In some of the poorest communities babies are wrapped in newspaper when they are born so all of the knitted clothes and hats are much needed.

YMCA St Helens invited all the knitters in to North Road today to celebrate their achievements with tea and cake and all the clothing is being packaged and sent off to the project team.

There is still plenty to keep our knitters busy though as the project currently has no end date as there is such a need for these items

A selection of the clothing and some of the talented YMCA knitters can be seen in the picture.

A big thank you to everyone who has supported this project!
